Oftentimes we find ourselves making photographs with suboptimal natural lighting conditions. Our photos feel underexposed, ‘mushy’ and/or flat. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome this by bringing artificial lighting into our toolkit. Artificial lighting can feel daunting. With a little practice and instruction, you’ll be well on your way. This workshop helps you overcome any reservations by giving you a more thorough understanding of your camera mechanics and lighting strategies. We’ll consider the direction our light is coming from and the quality of light, from diffused to hard. We’ll play with strobes (flashes) and light modifiers along with “hot” continuous lights. We’ll mix the two together and visualize how light can both freeze and drag. Mastering light is fun and empowering—where unexpected outcomes are celebrated.
