Editing + Sequencing: The Fundamentals

  • 722 Sumner Spring Lane (map)

Do you have a body of work that you are looking to summarize in tighter edits for contests, pitches, grants and publishers?

Students explore the mysteries of editing and sequencing for photo-based projects in this multi-day workshop. Bring in a specific body of work and discover its most communicative form(s) in distilled and dynamic edits.

We begin over Zoom on Feb 15 (4-6pm) for an overview, introductions, and preparation instructions. On Feb 21, we work in person together to refine your artist statement and uncover the underlying thesis of your series. From that refined understanding of your project, you workshop your photographs into a lean, impactful edit (10-12). On the final day, we expand your edit, consider sequencing strategies, and create a more prolonged edit in a book dummy context (24-30).

Preparation is necessary for this class. You will receive an email from the instructors a couple of weeks prior.

Instructors: Ben Alper and Phyllis B. Dooney.
Cost: $380
